A BIT ABOUT THERESA:
Theresa started skating in St. Catherines when she was two. Her mother put her on a pair of roller skates and as the story goes, she took to it like a fish in water. Later when they moved to Calgary and there were three rinks, the cabal of crazy cool kids would cruise the perimeter of the rink, perfecting their fancy footwork. She skated on the regular until 1993 and moved away where there were no rinks. That is where she started inline skating and would dip in and out of the rink when she visited Calgary.
Her skater life changed dramatically when she started following an all-men’s roller dance crew based in LA and became re-addicted! Theresa is co-founder of Calgary Roller Skate and also owns an adult dance and fitness studio, Free Spirit Dance. She has always been a dancer whether on 8 wheels or in her shoes!
In Theresa’s own words, “I guess at my core, I just love to groove, and even with over twenty years of dance experience (performer, instructor and dance studio owner) being the lubricant for my now-8 wheels, I am always finding new things to learn and challenge me. For me, skating brings me back to a time when I was carefree, my hair blowing in the breeze and good tunes that couldn’t keep me still. Skating is just good food for the soul and I just want others to feel that freedom on eight wheels!”
